Change It Up A Little

It seems to me that there are a limited number of days that we humans have to live. While I still have days left, I think I would like to experience a little bit of as much as I can. I also think that the best way to do that is to live every day differently.

I would not go overboard and say jump out of a plane or climb a mountain every day. Some day I hope I will do both of those things, however there are a number of small things you can do to change it up so that every single day has something interesting and new. For instance, try different foods at restaurants you commonly go to, have tea one day instead of coffee, or ride the bus to work instead of driving. Better yet, ride your bike to work. Maybe you could wear your underwear backwards. Who would know? These are the kinds of incremental changes I make to my day to keep things interesting. It seems to keep me sort of sane. You know, somewhat.

I think it is a good idea to make a big change in the way you do things every so often as well.

Every once in awhile, after you have taken in much of your current geographic location, I think it is a good idea to move somewhere else and give that location a spin for awhile. Is it a big hassle to do? Yup! Is it worth it? Absolutely! Chris and I just moved to St. Louis, and now everything is new. I can guarantee that we will move again at some unspecified amount of time in the future too and it will be just as much of a hassle and just as rewarding as well.

It will all be worth it too, because we all live once. That much we all know. After that, no one knows for sure. Many people think they know for sure what happens after death, but no one really does. Therefore, I think it is important to live this one life as if it is all you get.

Another thing that you can change is your operating system. Been on Windows for awhile? Try a Mac next time. Been with OS X for as long as you can remember? Maybe one of the many flavors of Linux would suit you just as well or better. I recently decided to start using Ubuntu on my laptop full time and I am actually pretty impressed. Linux is a little more technical heavy than the more popular Apple OS X or Microsoft Windows operating systems, but you might actually learn something about how your computer works in the process. Learning something new is never a bad thing.

Or here is an idea, why try a completely new genre of music. Something that you have not heard before, or even something that you think you hate. Approach it with an open mind and see where it takes you. Give it some time to set in and see if it grows on you. Chances are it may.

In fact all of these things should be approached with an open mind. As the old saying goes; variety is the spice of life. Sometimes the smallest changes can take you on an adventure, and I can almost guarantee that you will find yourself instantly addicted. The love of new things is one addiction that I wish on anyone. Life can be an adventure if you make it so. Go out and do something new. I guess if routine is your thing that is find by me. It is not hurting anyone, but you might be surprised at what you might find if you learn, try, or do something new. And do it every day, because one day will be your last. By that time you will not have any chances. And looking back on your life when it is the end, you may regret some of the things you have done, but you will probably regret even more the things that you have not.

Kid on a Leash

Has anyone seen these kid leash products around? Sometimes I see them at the zoo, farmers market, or other crowded areas. If a company can make a product that will make a parent feel a little bit safer, there will always be people out there to buy it. When I see one, it reminds me of that scene in Rise of the Planet of the Apes when a leashed Caesar sees a dog on a leash and turns to Will and signs, "Am I a pet?" The idea of the product is that it will keep the child safe and nearby. It is designed to subside the fear that a child will run off or get abducted. I think that if someone is out to abduct a child during the few seconds when a parent is looking away, a leash is a very small deterrent, and likely, not effective. All the abductor would need is a nice pair of scissors or simply their fingers. The latch cannot be that hard to work. If anything, having a leash might give a parent a false sense of security causing them to pay less attention to the child. In that case it

The Poky Little Puppy

Sometimes Jupiter likes to read the classic Golden Book tale, The Poky Little Puppy before bed or nap time. This is another of many children's stories where the intended moral of the story seems to have been surpassed by a message that, I think, conveys the nearly the opposite message. The Poky Little Puppy is a story about five little puppies who dig a hole under the fence to go out for a walk in the wide, wide world. The fifth, poky, puppy is always behind the others. Eventually the poky little puppy smells the dessert that is prepared for the puppies each night. The four other puppies smell it too and hurry home while the poky puppy takes his time. The four puppies then eat their dinner and are scolded by their mother for digging a hole under the fence with the punishment being that they do not get dessert. Then along comes the poky puppy after everyone is asleep. He is met with no dinner but left over dessert, since the four puppies were not able to eat it. This scenario takes
