Imagine there's no heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today...
Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace...
You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one
Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world...
You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one
Today is the 31st anniversary of the day that John Lennon was shot by Mark David Chapman. The song Imagine still inspires an deep felt emotional response every time I hear it. When thinking of my favorite music artists, Lennon does not cross my mind. I do not like choosing favorites when it comes to something like a song, but if I had to, this one would be a strong contender. Lennon's world is still a distant dream, but I like to think it is getting closer in some ways. Many of us have come a long way to stop tolerating racism, homophobia, sexism, dogmatism; but we still have a long way to go. I do not expect to live to see the world Lennon was talking about, but maybe my children will be instrumental in helping us get there.
